King v. Universal HVAC, Geo-Tech Construction, and Platinum Payroll

In December 2014, three steamfitters filed a lawsuit in New York state court against Universal HVAC, Geo-Tech Construction, and Platinum Payroll. The Plaintiffs alleged that they worked on numerous state and federal public projects, including schools, colleges, community centers and government buildings, but were not paid prevailing wages, supplemental benefits and the required daily and weekly overtime. Plaintiffs were directly employed by Universal HVAC and worked with general contractor Geo-Tech on certain projects. Platinum Payroll partnered with Universal to provide payroll and other employee services, such that they acted as a joint employer of the Plaintiffs.
